In a recent appearance on the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast, Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, Travis Kelce, offered his insights into the ongoing debate over who is the greatest quarterback of all time: Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes.
While Kelce, like many in the NFL community, acknowledged Tom Brady as the current GOAT, he also suggested that Mahomes could potentially surpass Brady in the future.
Kelce commented, “Obviously, I’ve got all the respect for Tom Brady. I wasn’t able to get him in the playoffs, so I’ve Tom Bradyed multiple times in my career; I’ve got all the love for him.
He’s the GOAT and the best to ever do it. But I think right now, the rate that Pat is at, how he’s doing it, I think it’s a little more all on Pat than it was on Brady.”
He continued, “I just think one-five has an ability to find a way to get things done even when it breaks down or he’s got to make this crazy throw across the field, and that’s just something you haven’t seen in the NFL, and he’s been doing it since his first snap, and I think he’s going to play a long, long time.”
Kelce expressed his belief that Mahomes has the potential to accumulate numerous accolades, but acknowledged that the Super Bowl victories will be the defining factor in the GOAT conversation.
As of now, Brady holds the record with a remarkable seven Super Bowl titles.
Patrick Mahomes has undeniably been playing at an exceptional level since he entered the league, achieving five Pro Bowl selections, two NFL MVP awards, and two Super Bowl championships within his first five seasons as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.
However, to surpass Brady’s legacy, Mahomes will need to consistently maintain this high level of performance throughout his entire career.
In contrast, Tom Brady, who has retired, left behind a remarkable legacy with 15 Pro Bowl selections, three MVP awards, and seven Super Bowl titles.
The debate over who truly deserves the title of the NFL’s greatest quarterback, whether it’s Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, continues to be a topic of intense discussion among football enthusiasts.
