In a recent episode of the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate about the greatest quarterback of all time.
He expressed his deep respect for Tom Brady, referring to him as the GOAT, while also suggesting that his teammate, Patrick Mahomes, has the potential to surpass Brady’s legacy.
Kelce stated, “Obviously, I got all the respect for Tom Brady. He’s the GOAT and the best to ever do it, but I think the rate Pat is at, how he’s doing it, I think it’s a little more all on Pat than Brady.”
When we examine Mahomes’ first five seasons as a starter, the statistics speak for themselves.
He boasts more MVP awards (two), Pro Bowl selections (five), passing yards (23,957), and passing touchdowns (192) than Tom Brady achieved during his initial five years as a starter.
Moreover, Mahomes currently leads the NFL in QBR with an impressive 76.9 and is considered the MVP favorite according to OddsChecker, with odds of +275.

Tom Brady, who retired after the 2022 season, has recognized Mahomes as a superstar capable of challenging his legacy. In a recent episode of “The Let’s Go!” podcast, Brady mentioned, “I mean, I think when I’m looking at guys in pro football, Patrick is the one that really stands out. They’ve done a great job since he’s really taken over.”
Nevertheless, Brady, known for his illustrious career with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spanning 23 seasons, holds the NFL record with seven Super Bowl victories. Even Kelce admitted that matching that Super Bowl total would be an immense challenge for Mahomes.
Kelce further commented, “So I think [Mahomes] will catch [Brady] in all the accolades, but I think the biggest thing is always going to be those Super Bowls. That’s a lot of Super Bowls.”
Regardless of whether Mahomes ultimately surpasses Brady’s legacy, there is no denying that he is currently the best quarterback in the league.
The Kansas City Chiefs also have a strong chance to make history by becoming the first team to repeat as champions since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004, with the best Super Bowl odds according to OddsChecker at +450.
