Touchdowns and Talismans: Patrick Mahomes Unveils His Game-Day Rituals, Including Lucky Red Underwear

The triumphs of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes extend beyond his remarkable skills and dedication on the football field.

In a surprising revelation on Monday, Mahomes shared a lesser-known aspect of his pre-game routine, shedding light on the role of a seemingly magical item in his success—his lucky red underwear.

Attributing the origins of this quirky tradition to his wife, Mahomes humorously explained, “First, my wife got them for me, so I’m not throwing y’all down, but I have to wear them.”

He went on to recount the positive correlation between slipping into the red undergarments and the team’s performance, stating, “But, at the same time, I threw them on that first season. We had a pretty good season that season.

I only wear them for game day though, so [they are] not too worn down or not like nasty, unclean. I wash them every once in a while at least.”

Mahomes, known for his stellar performances, admitted to a unique approach to laundry when on a winning streak.

“I mean, if we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash it,” he confessed.

“I got to just keep it rolling. So, you know, as long as I’m winning football games. I’ll keep the superstition going.”

This revelation about Mahomes’s game-day rituals first surfaced earlier in the season during an interview with running back Isiah Pacheco.

The quarterback’s dedication to his superstitions becomes particularly evident when he declared, “Chiefs fans will be happy with Mahomes’ superstitions as long as the winning continues as the team hopes for a return trip to the Super Bowl.”
