Kansas City Chiefs’ second-year wide receiver, Skyy Moore, found himself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons following his pivotal touchdown drop against the Denver Broncos in Week 8.
Much like Kadarius Toney, who faced a challenging season opener, Moore decided to address the media during the press conference on Wednesday of Week 9.
During the press conference, Moore reflected on the impact of the defender’s interference on his ability to catch the ball, saying, “It was a grab, but you get grabbed every play. I’m expected to make that catch. I know that. On to the next play.”

Moore also acknowledged Travis Kelce’s comments on the offense’s performance, describing them as “an echo of the locker room.” He emphasized that the team is fully aware of its current struggles and is tirelessly working to regain its usual form.
On a more personal note, Moore expressed his desire to improve his performance for the remainder of the season. He stated, “When opportunities come, I need to make the play.”
Prior to Moore’s media address, Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid provided his perspective on the situation. He defended Moore’s performance, saying, “Yeah, Skyy’s doing well, we’re just rotating a lot of guys in there [at wide receiver], so opportunities [are limited].”
Reid also mentioned the touchdown incompletion, explaining that Moore had his arm yanked down, which forced him to attempt a one-armed catch. He commended Moore’s overall contributions to the team, urging him to keep progressing.
Coach Reid had previously shown support for Moore after the Week 8 loss on Monday, October 30, and he reiterated his stance during the Wednesday press conference.
In a broader context, Reid emphasized that the issues with the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps are not limited to a single player. He assured that the team would overcome its challenges and improve collectively. Reid stated, “It’s not just a wide receiver thing. It’s all of us,” highlighting the need for offensive consistency.
Regarding Kelce’s remarks about mistakes, Reid acknowledged the frustration within the team when they don’t perform well. However, he saw this frustration as a driving force for improvement, saying, “You gotta work through it. That’s what we’re doing.”
Currently, Moore ranks sixth in receiving yardage for the season, with 168 yards and one touchdown. He is preceded by Kelce, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Noah Gray.
Despite the challenges faced by Moore, he’s not alone in experiencing a tough season, as Toney and Justyn Ross have collectively managed only 143 receiving yards, with Ross facing an indefinite absence due to off-the-field issues.
As Week 9 approaches, all eyes will be on the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps as they aim to step up and support Patrick Mahomes II and the Chiefs Kingdom on the global stage.
