Surprising Omission: Mahomes Excluded as Three Chiefs Earn PFF Midseason All-Pro Honors

As the Kansas City Chiefs enter their bye week with a stellar 7-2 record, the focus remains on defending their Super Bowl championship.

Despite the remarkable team performance, the Pro Football Focus (PFF) Midseason All-Pro team surprisingly excludes quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

PFF’s prestigious list, however, does feature standout performances from three Chiefs players who have been pivotal in maintaining the team’s championship aspirations.

Tight end Travis Kelce secures a spot on the first team, while left guard Joe Thuney earns a place on the second team, alongside first-team cornerback Trent McDuffie.

Kelce, with outstanding offense (84.2) and receiving (90.1) grades, has been a reliable force, amassing 57 receptions for 597 yards and four touchdowns.

Despite contending with injuries, he retains his status as the NFL’s premier tight end.

PFF recognizes Kelce’s exceptional contributions, noting his significant lead in receiving yards among tight ends, a 90.0-plus PFF receiving grade, and a position-leading 2.43 yards per route run.

In just his second year, cornerback Trent McDuffie continues to defy expectations. With an overall grade of 81.5, McDuffie stands out among the league’s top defensive backs.

Impressively, he has allowed only one touchdown in 315 coverage snaps and has forced four fumbles, showcasing his ability to disrupt opponents.

Although Joe Thuney’s grades have dipped from his first two seasons with the Chiefs, he remains a formidable guard.

Despite being a second-team selection, he holds the highest pass-blocking grade among guards with 20% of qualified snaps and ranks 11th overall under the same parameters.

Thuney’s contribution is notable, though he has faced increased pressure, allowing 19 pressures, the most since 2018.
