NFL Icon Michael Irvin Draws Remarkable Parallels Between Patrick Mahomes and Divinity

Renowned NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin recently heaped immense praise on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the wake of the Chiefs’ Week 9 triumph over the Miami Dolphins.

On FS1’s Undisputed, Irvin emphatically stated, “Patrick Mahomes is essentially akin to a deity when it comes to playing quarterback. I don’t care what anyone says; even with not having the ideal talent at wide receiver, he consistently manages to make enough plays to keep his team in the game. He is an extraordinary talent.”

In their recent victory, Mahomes and the Chiefs bested their former teammate, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Irvin expressed regret over the separation of the dynamic Mahomes-Hill partnership, remarking, “That Mahomes-Hill combination should have never been disrupted; it was the most remarkable spectacle I’ve witnessed on a football field.”

During the game, Mahomes completed 20 of 30 passes for 185 yards and secured a pair of touchdowns. Additionally, he carried the ball six times, amassing 24 rushing yards in the Chiefs’ 21-14 win over Miami.

For the season as a whole, the two-time MVP has thrown for 2,442 yards, registering 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions while boasting an impressive completion rate of 68.6 percent and a passer rating of 96.7.

The Chiefs have encountered substantial criticism this season due to their limited receiving corps, which includes the departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster in the spring without a true replacement.

This decision followed the trade of Hill to the Dolphins during the previous offseason.

Notably, Mahomes successfully led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory last year, even in Hill’s absence.

In 2023, despite the presence of a less-than-ideal group of receivers, he has guided Kansas City to an impressive 7-2 record, which ranks as the second-best record in the NFL.

A product of Texas Tech, Mahomes has twice led the league in passing touchdowns, most recently achieving this feat last season with a total of 41.

His career high in this category was attained during his inaugural year as Kansas City’s full-time starting quarterback in 2018, when he amassed an impressive 50 touchdowns.

With a Week 10 bye ahead, the Chiefs will prepare to host the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch scheduled for November 20th.
