At just 15 years old, Brianna already knows what she wants her future to be. While most teenagers are still figuring things out, she’s set her heart on becoming a mechanic. She loves cars, loves fixing things, and dreams of building a career with her own hands.
Then came the diagnosis.
In late 2024, Brianna was told she had Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia. Overnight, her world changed. Instead of engines and toolkits, she faced hospital beds, treatments, and endless rounds of medicine. For nine long months, the garage grew silent. The tools she loved stayed untouched.
Minutes passed. And then—something no one expected.
Even though her body grew weaker, her dream grew stronger. “When I had to stop for treatment, it broke me,” Brianna admitted. “Not being able to do anything with cars for nine months made me realize just how much more I want to make being a mechanic my career.”
It was as if the very thing that threatened to take her future only sharpened her resolve.
Brianna didn’t just fight cancer—she fought for her dream. And when she became a finalist in the 2025 Redkite and Coles Dare to Dream Scholarship, it was proof that determination could outlast even the hardest challenges.
The scholarship will help her fund a tool kit and start a TAFE course to pursue mechanics professionally. To most people, that might sound ordinary. But for Brianna, it is extraordinary—the chance to reclaim the nine months she lost, and to build the life she’s been chasing since she first held a wrench.
Her story reminds us all that dreams aren’t measured by the setbacks we face, but by the strength we carry through them.
Brianna’s dream didn’t stop in the hospital. It’s only just beginning.
